The season continues

The Bundesliga will be allowed to continue the season behind closed doors and under strict hygiene regulations from the middle of May. The German Football League (DFL) will confirm an exact date on Thursday (07/05/20).
Berlin – The politicians in Germany have allowed professional clubs to resume their seasons in compliance with strict health and safety regulations. The Sports Medicine/Special Match Operations Task Force, set up by the DFB and the DFL, has been working hard on drawing up a health and safety concept, that has convinced the politicians to allow play to continue. With the help of the Task Force, and in strict compliance with the regulations, the clubs can take the first step by returning to regular first team training. Then play will be able to resume in mid-May, with matches taking place behind closed doors and with only a limited number of people in the stadium, in order to finish the 2019/20 season. The 36 Bundesliga clubs will meet via a video conference with the DFL on Thursday (07/05/20) in order to decide an exact date for the continuation of the season.
“It’s great news for the Bundesliga,” said Michael Preetz. “The government’s decision involves a great deal of trust and is based on a concept that the DFL have worked very hard on to develop. We are hugely grateful for both,” emphasised the Sporting Director. “We are looking forward to kicking off the next matchday. Because the matches are ultimately what we are training for every day. On the one hand, this positive decision is very important for all of the clubs economically. Additionally, Bundesliga matches can also mean taking another small step back towards normality for many people, as well as opening shops, restaurants, day-care centres and schools.”
