Hertha BSC sorts futures of Dardai and Covic

After his one-year hiatus, Pál Dárdai will return to Hertha BSC as a youth coach in the summer as planned. He will take over the U16 team from July 1st 2020 and at the same time will act as coordinator of ​​the Hertha BSC Academy. "As agreed last summer, Pál is returning to our academy and we’re very happy about that. During his time off, he definitely received a few calls from other clubs. However, the fact that he wants to continue on here shows his profound loyalty to Hertha BSC. As usual, this conversation with Pál was rather short. As a coach, he is a great asset to the club, especially the academy."

The old/new coach was also happy to be back: "I really enjoyed taking some time out this year, it was good for me. I was able to work on a few things and, above all, recharge my batteries, because the four and a half years of the Bundesliga tends to be exhausting. Now I'm looking forward to summer and returning to coach the next generation. I've always emphasised that I really enjoy working with young people, challenging and encouraging young talents, making sure they’re on the right path - that is an important thing in football. I'm also Hertha through and through, so there was no question for me that I would, of course, take part in the waiving salaries."

Club also in talks with Covic

Michael Preetz is also in contact with Ante Covic, who rose to head coach in the summer, after his time with the academy, but vacated his post in November. "We have had talks about a return to the youth academy and will continue to do so in due course. The door remains open for Ante at Hertha BSC, because he’s Hertha through and through as well and he showed that, among other things when he waived part of his salary too.”
