Team training restarts

After the Berlin government gave the go-ahead, Hertha returned to team training on Friday afternoon (8/5/20).

Berlin – The DFL and the government have been preparing the country for the restart of the Bundesliga over the past few days, and Hertha now know for sure that they will face TSG Hoffenheim away on 16th May at 15:30 CEST. In order to prepare for the away match in Sinsheim, Bruno Labbadia’s side were able to return to team training on Friday afternoon (8/5/20) after working in small groups for the past four weeks. They required the go-ahead from the Berlin government – which they received. The Hertha players were pleased to get back to proper training, with tackling and even training matches now permitted.

“You can’t underestimate it”

“After nine weeks without team training, it was slightly strange to be able to have the whole squad on the pitch at once – you can’t underestimate that. We’re obviously pleased that we could do a proper 11-a-side game again – so thanks to the government for approving it,” commented a pleased Labbadia after a two-hour session in the sunshine. The 54-year-old and his coaching team now have to try and implement their ideas worked on previously into the larger team sessions, in order to be ready for the restart of the league in eight days’ time. “It’s cool that we can train as a whole team again now. It’s obviously a lot different to working in small groups,” said Maximilian Mittelstädt. The Herthaner will step up their preparations for matchday 26’s game in the coming days, with the whole team fit and available. The players will be quarantined during this time in the team hotel the ‘Palace’ – something which is required by the DFL.
