“I believed in myself - and I scored!”

“I believed in myself - and I scored!”

Krzysztof Piątek, Maximilian Mittelstädt und Rune Jarstein all gave their thoughts after the draw in Leipzig.

A lot went into this one: Hertha BSC drew 2-2 against RB Leipzig on Wednesday evening as fans got to witness a truly exciting, up and down game. “When you play as well as we did today and when you’re a man up as were, you have to think maybe we could have even won the game. Nevertheless, we’re really happy with a point,” said Maximilian Mittelstädt after the team drew with the side currently 3rd in the table. Krzysztof Piątek, who held his nerve from the spot, was very happy to get his goal in the game. “In the moment I just had to believe in myself, I did, and I scored, said the striker. We collected all the post match reaction.

Maximilian Mittelstädt: When you play as well as we did today and when you’re a man up as were, you have to think maybe we could have even won the game. Nevertheless, we’re really happy with a point. We fought back after we conceded a truly unfortunate goal, and we worked for a win all the way to the end. That really shows how happy we all are at the moment - the morale in the camp is sky high - but we can’t lose sight of our defensive duties in future. If you play for the win against Leipzig, you can often get caught at the back, and we did after they went down to ten. In future we have to find a wa to look for the win but also stay solid at the back. We did that for long stretches today and we only allowed Leipzig a few chances which was good. We’re playing really well at the moment!

Krzysztof Piątek: I’m really happy that I got to help the team today, that’s the most important thing to me. Before Bruno Labbadia came to the club, I was the designated penalty taker so naturally I picked up the ball first when we got the penalty. In that moment I just believed in myself and I scored. Of course I’d like to be playing more but Vedad Ibisevic is in top form at the minute, scoring goals and helping the side out tremendously. When he plays and scores, I’m just as happy because for me the team comes first. I do hope I get a few more minutes soon though, because I feel fit and ready - we’ll see!

Rune Jarstein: It was a horrid one for me, because I had hold of the ball then I didn’t. Luckily the team came back and we showed great character. We’re really happy with the 2-2 draw because Leipzig ar a really good team, so to get a point here is good for us. Every point counts for us at the moment and we’ll look to get more in the next game on Saturday. Then we’ll see whether we move up or down the table after the upcoming games have passed.
