“I will give my best!”

Ahead of Saturday’s match against FC Augsburg (30.05.20, 15:30 CEST), herthabsc.de spoke with Eduard Löwen, who is on loan at Augsburg, about his return to the Olympiastadion.

Berlin – Players who decide to join a new club over the winter break usually do so with the goal of picking up more playing time in mind. That was also the case for Eduard Löwen, who had joined Hertha from 1. FC Nürnberg in summer 2019. The central midfielder made seven appearances (playing the full 90 minutes on two occasions) for the Blue-Whites in the 2019/20 Hinrunde, which led the 23-year-old to request a move over the winter break. Löwen was subsequently loaned out to FC Augsburg until summer 2021, where he has been able to get the playing time he was looking for. He has featured in all 11 Rückrunde games for FCA, and has started each of the last five (2 goals). Last weekend, ‘Edu’ scored a direct-free kick away against Schalke 04. This Saturday (30.05.20), he will make his return to the Olympiastadion. Ahead of the match, herthabsc.de spoke with the Germany U21 international about his time in Augsburg so far, facing off against his former teammates and his personal goals.

herthabsc.de: Edu, first things first: how are you and your family doing?

Löwen: My family and I are all doing well and we’re all healthy, thank you. The current situation with the Coronavirus has of course been difficult for everyone in different ways.

herthabsc.de: Augsburg have taken four of a possible nine points following the season restart, a strong start after the enforced break. How does it feel to finally be able to play again, even if it’s behind closed doors?

Löwen: Yes, we got off to a good start recently. But, that’s not enough. We want to take as many points as possible from our remaining six games, regardless of the external circumstances surrounding the game.

herthabsc.de: Putting aside the first three results, what has your impression of Southern Germany been so far?

Löwen: I feel at home here. I’d already spent some time in the south when I was at Nürnberg. Heiko Herrlich has shown a lot of trust in me, which I’m grateful for. I’ve made myself at home here off the pitch as well.

herthabsc.de: On Saturday you will return to the Olympiastadion. Are you looking forward to being reunited with your former teammates?

Löwen: Of course I’m looking forward to this match. As with any other game, it’s about picking up those three points, which is why I will give my best, as I always do. You have a chance to talk with certain players here and there, and yes, I am looking forward to seeing my old teammates again.

herthabsc.de: You will only be returning to Berlin for a short time this weekend. Your loan spell at Augsburg goes until summer 2021 still. What personal goals do you hope to achieve in the future?

Löwen: I want to help my team stay up this season. Personally, I always want to play and deliver strong performances. Every else will follow – I’m just focused on the present.
