Dennis Smarsch to join FC St. Pauli

The goalkeeper will leave Hertha BSC after 10 years at the club to join St. Pauli. The deal includes a buy-back clause for the Old Lady.
Berlin – After 10 years in Berlin, Dennis Smarsch will move to Hamburg to join FC St. Pauli. The academy product has signed a three-year deal, which includes a buy-back clause for Hertha BSC. “We’re excited that Dennis has this excellent opportunity to continue his development at a well-established second-division side,” Michael Preetz said about the transfer. “We will keep a close eye on his progress.”
Smarsch joined Hertha BSC from Reinickendorfer Füchsen in 2010 and worked his way up through the ranks of the club’s academy. The 21-year-old won the Youth Bundesliga with the Hertha U19s in 2018, after which he signed his first professional contract with the Old Lady. Smarsch made his Bundesliga debut in October 2019 against FC Augsburg and made his second top-flight appearance in the final away game of the 2019/20 season against Gladbach. He made a total of 25 appearances for the Hertha U23s in the Regionalliga Nordost since 2018. Smarsch has also been capped at the youth level with the Germany U18s and U19s. The goalkeeper is now looking to take his next steps with St. Pauli.
