‘Oranje Trio’ and Jarstein celebrate - Maier's U21s defeated

Seven Hertha players made appearances for their countries during the international break. The Blue-Whites on international duty saw three victories and two defeats.
Berlin - The first international break of the 2020/21 season is now done. Following the international action, important points picked up and happy faces contrast with a narrow defeat in a great game and a friendly loss.
Dutch trio celebrate late win - Maier loses with Germany U21s
On Tuesday evening (8th September), the ‘Oranje Trio’ of Deyovaisio Zeefuik, Javairo Dilrosun and Daishawn Redan were in action against Norway U21s. Both goals were scored late in the second half as the Dutch U21s came out 2-0 winners in the encounter and took another big step towards qualifying for next year's European U21 Championship. While Zeefuik played the full 90 minutes, Dilrosun was substituted on the hour mark, joining Redan who did not come off the bench. Just a couple of hours beforehand, Arne Maier led Germany U21s out onto the field as captain in the clash against Belgium. However after an early dismissal, Stefan Kuntz’s team had to make do with ten men and ultimately fell to a 4-1 defeat, with Maier playing 80 minutes.

Jarstein celebrates - Piątek watches win from the bench

Monday evening (7th September) saw two Herthaner in UEFA Nations League action. Rune Jarstein started in net for Norway and celebrated a decisive 5-1 victory in Northern Ireland. At the same time, Krzysztof Piątek was on international duty for Poland in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but had to watch the away victory from the bench as the Poles came out 2-1 winners. Meanwhile on the same day, Marton Dárdai was in action for Germany U21s alongside fellow home-grown Herthaner Jonas Dirkner (Hertha U23s) and Christalino Atemona (Hertha U19s). The trio played 60 minutes each in four 30 minute halves against Belgium, narrowly losing 1-0. Slovakian duo Peter Pekarík and Ondrej Dudaand Czech midfield-motor Vladimir Duda left their national teams early, and were able to take part in some of training with the Blue-Whites.

The remaining players on international duty will not have much time for recovery once they return to Berlin. The Old Lady take on Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening (20:45 CEST) in the first round of the cup.
