A final test

With the third round of fixtures, the international break is coming to an end. Six Hertha players are in UEFA Nations League action, Cunha and Córdoba are unused substitutes, and Alderete is brought on.

Krzysztof Piątek’s Poland will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday evening as they look to take top spot in the EFA Nations League League A Group 1. With four points, Poland sit joint second in the group alongside Netherlands, one point behind leaders Italy. Wednesday’s opponents occupy bottom place, having picked up two points from three matches. Group 2 is a similar picture, with Dedryck Boyata and Dodi Lukébakio and Belgium looking to take back 1st position after their loss to England. Belgium will be hoping that England drop points against Denmark as they aim for a victory over Iceland. Lukébakio will be hoping to make his full international debut. England lead the group on seven points, ahead of Belgium with six, Denmark with four and Iceland with two points.
Vladimír Darida, Peter Pekarík and Rune Jarstein have similar goals in sight in League B. Darida and Czech Republic, who will be without a number of their players and coach Jaroslav Silhavy due to positive Coronavirus tests, sit on six points in Group 2, one point behind group leaders Scotland, who they face on Wednesday evening. In the same group, Pekarík’s Slovakia will face Israel. Slovakia have only managed one point and will need to be successful on Wednesday to avoid falling out of touch with the rest of the group. 
In Group 1, Jarstein and Norway sit joint first alongside Austria, each on six points. Norway face Northern Ireland and will hope that Austria slip up in Romania. In the U21 Euopean Championsship qualifiers, two Herthaner were in action. Mattéo Guendouzi captained France to a 1-0 victory over Slovakia on Monday night, playing the full 90 minutes and sit in second place in their group, three points behind leaders Switzerland. Deyovaisio Zeefuik, who also wore the captain’s armband, played 76 minutes as Netherlands qualified for the tournament with a 7-0 win over Cyprus.
Cunha and Córdoba made to wait – Alderete makes brief appearance
Brazil made it two from two in their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign with a 4-2 win against Peru in Lima. Matheus Cunha was an unused substitute. Neymar scored a hat-trick, while Richarlison grabbed the other goal, with Peru picking up two red cards through Carlos Cáceda and Carlos Zambrano. Behind group leaders Brazil and Argentina are Omar Alderete with Paraguay and Jhon Córdoba’s Colombia, each on four points. As Alderete was bought on in injury time in his country’s 1-0 win over Venezuela, Córdoba was an unused substitute in Colombia’s 2-2 draw with Chile. Radamel Falcao scored a last minute equaliser to give his country a point. The next round of qualification games will take place in November.
