Poland and Belgium go top
Berlin – Fives matches in the UEFA Nations League featured Hertha players on the final night of the second international break of the season – some had more success than others.
The Belgium national side, with Dedryck Boyata in the starting eleven, went top of the table in Group 2 of League A with a 2-1 win over Iceland. Dodi Lukébakio watched proceedings from the bench. Previous table-toppers England lost their spot after a shock 1-0 loss against Denmark. Poland also took top spot in Group 1 of League A. They beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0, with Krzysztof Piątek playing from the 64th minute, and profited from Italy and the Netherlands’ draw.
A mixed night for Hertha’s internationals
The Herthaner in Group 2 of League B had little reason to celebrate, however. Vladimir Darida’s Czech Republic side failed to topple group leaders Scotland away from home, with the match ending 1-0 to the Scots. They open a four-point gap on the Czechs. It was an even tougher night for Peter Pekarik and Slovakia in their home game against Israel. Despite leading 2-0 at the break, they lost 3-2. Norway held on to their spot at the top of Group 1 of League B with a 1-0 win against Northern Ireland, but Rune Jarstein didn’t make an appearance.
The players will now return to Berlin. The last two games in the Nations League group stage will take place in the third and final international break of the year between 14th and 18th November.
