"Just getting a win would mean more to me"

With personnel, spectators and milestones the topics of discussion, head coach Bruno Labbadia and managing director for sport Michael Preetz spoke to the press on Friday afternoon ahead of Sunday’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg.

The next matchday is just around the corner. On Sunday at 18:00 CET, Hertha will welcome VfL Wolfsburg to the Olympiastadion. Last week, the boys in blue and white faced a trip to league leaders RB Leipzig, where, despite an impressive display, Bruno’s men were unable to come away with a result. "We analysed the game right away," said the head coach at Friday’s press conference. "We can be disappointed about the result, but not with our performance. We went into the new week of training with this in mind and have prepared well." On Sunday, Hertha’s aim is to get their first home win of the season. For Labbadia, this would be his 100th Bundesliga win as a coach – not something he’s particularly interested in, however: "Just getting a win would mean a lot more to me than this milestone," said the 54-year-old.

For the time being, the players will have to cope without support from the stands. Due to the current pandemic, Sunday’s game at the Olympiastadion will take place behind closed doors. "It’s obviously a shame for the Bundesliga, because we saw that the hygiene concept worked," said Michael Preetz in the virtual presser, but added following: "However, of course we will go along with and support the government’s decision.
