"We had to take the three points"

"We had to take the three points"

Alexander Schwolow, Niklas Stark, Jhon Córdoba and Maxi Mittelstädt discuss the action in Cologne.
Good chances, the majority of the game’s shots and even an effort against the post with eight minutes to go. Hertha definitely came closer to securing all three points than 1. FC Köl, but with no luck in the end as neither team was able to make the breakthrough in a game that ended goalless. "We had to take the three points. I can’t remember Köln having any big chances. That hurts, especially with the shot against the post at the end,” said  Alexander Schwolow a little ruefully. The goalkeeper will take some positives from the draw, however. “It was important for us to defend solidly and keep the clean sheet for the fifth time this season.” herthabsc.de sums up the reaction to the match, including a catch-up with an old friend.
Alexander Schwolow: It wasn’t a particularly demanding game where I had to make lots of saves, but as a goalkeeper it’s important to join in with play and be wide awake. I can’t remember Köln having any big chances – even the shot in the first half was pretty harmless, so we had to take three points. That hurts, especially with the shot against the post at the end. It was important for us to defend solidly and keep the clean sheet for the fifth time this season.
Niklas Stark: Only right at the end did we show what the points meant to us today. We’ve picked up a point away from home anyway, which is something positive that we can take from the game. There’s not a lot of time to think about it now as we play again on Tuesday. We just have to put the ball away. If we do that, the whole game changes and everything gets a bit easier. We are where we are. We have to deal with the situation and make it better – ideally starting against Hoffenheim.
Jhon Córdoba: We had chances to win throughout this game, but we will take the point.  I hope that we keep this focus. We have to keep working hard, stick at it and then get our reward in the next match against Hoffenheim on Tuesday!
Maximilian Mittelstädt: It was a really hard-fought match In the end we lacked the oomph to carve out that really great chance. I think that we were the team who came closest to making it 1-0, so it’s painful not to have taken the points. All in all we can’t be satisfied. It’s clear to us that we had to do more to take the points. A very similar game awaits us against Hoffenheim. It’s time to win matches again.
Ondrej Duda (1. FC Köln): We had more possession and better chances to go in front in the first half and at the beginning of the second. Towards the end of the game, Hertha created some good chances to win the game, so the draw is a fair result. Both teams wanted to win but a 0-0 is OK.
