"Everything we were looking for!"

Sporting director Arne Friedrich presented Hertha’s new signings, Sami Khedira and Nemanja Radonjić, at a press conference on Tuesday (02/02/21).
The flashing lights of the cameras and the laughter from the press box are usually a given at any press conference in professional football, but things are slightly different now that the media hordes have been forced away by the ongoing pandemic. There was still a good atmosphere in the press room on Tuesday, however, when Arne Friedrich faced the cameras alongside his two new signings, Nemanja Radonjić and Sami Khedira. The trio answered the journalists’ questions in a virtual press conference.
The sporting director took the opportunity to praise all those who were involved with getting the deals over the line. “A huge thank you to everyone who worked on these transfers. We looked at various options and we are happy to have got the players that we did,” said the 41-year-old to begin. “Nemanja has everything that we were looking for and he brings the toughness that’s needed to play in the Bundesliga. He promises us goals and assists,” said Friedrich. “I am also unbelievably happy that Sami is here. He brings so much experience but is always humble even with all his success. It’s a huge thing to have brought such a great professional and a world champion to Hertha BSC. We are proud of the signing and it shows our intent.”

New faces with passion and confidence
The first signing to be resented was Radonjić, who emphasised his thirst for action. “I am aware of our situation in the table but at the same time I know how well-stocked this squad is and I am absolutely sure that we can get out of it together,” said the Serb, who feels like he is in top condition. “I already played five matches in January. In Marseille I reached 37km/h and I think that speaks for itself,” the 24-year-old added with a grin.
Sami Khedira also took to the podium, laughing and underlining once again his motivation to get started in the blue and white of Hertha. “I am convinced of my quality and I feel like the people at this club want to achieve things. Being positive and taking on a challenge is something I can really get behind, it’s in my nature.” The 2014 World Cup winner ended by giving some insight into his own character: “I’m part of the team so I won’t come in and boss everyone around. Instead I want to use my experience and my qualities as best I can so that we can be successful together!”
