New signings join the pack

Pál Dárdai welcomed Sami Khedira and Nemanja Randonjić to the training ground on Tuesday (02/02/21). Preparations are underway for Friday’s match against Bayern.

On Tuesday (02/02/21), after all the talks and negotiations, the medical check-ups and the press conferences, Sami Khedira and Nemanja Randonjić were finally able to get back to doing what they love most – playing football. Both players joined team training for the first time, completing the full 90 minute session as the squad worked on positioning, passing and match situations under the watchful eye of Pál Dárdai. The coach was impressed by the performance of his new signings, who arrived in Berlin on deadline day. “Sami and Nemanja did well in their first session. Bit by bit, we now want to get them up to speed with the team and our play.”

The midfielder and the winger were also pleased with their first day’s training. “What’s important is what happens on the pitch so I am happy to have completed my first session with the team,” said Khedira. Hertha’s new number 28 also described his first impressions of his new surroundings: “Obviously it’s still a bit weird – new team, new teammates, new faces. We trained well and I was able to settle into this new setup. Now I need a little time to get to know the team and to find my rhythm.” Radonjić, Hertha’s new number 24, felt the same way. "The first session was good fun! I am really happy to be here, even though the last two days have been really exhausting and it is absolutely freezing in Berlin!"

The new signings did not get the chance to meet Dedryck Boyata and Javairô Dilrosun out on the snow-covered training pitch. The Belgian centre-half and the Dutch winger remain sidelined through injury. Jhon Córdoba and Marvin Plattenhardt did some individual work. The pair have recently been suffering with muscle issues.

Khedira and Radonjić can continue to settle in over the next few days. If their boss decides that the time is right, then the new players have a match to look forward to on Friday. The opponents are none other than perennial champions Bayern Munich (05/02/21, 20:30 CET).
