South Korea international Dongjun Lee joins Hertha with immediate effect from K-League side Ulsan Hyundai and sings a contract until 2025. “Dongjun is a very interesting kind of player who we are looking forward to having here. He’s very quick, agile, a strong dribbler who knows where the goal is and despite his size, can impose himself and is a good header of the ball. I’m pleased that we can welcome him to Herha BSC and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic on the new signing. The forward, who can also play on the right wing, is pleased with the transfer. “It’s definitely a big step for me, but it was always a dream of mine to move to one of Europe’s big leagues. I’m looking forward to the challenge and want to show what I can do as soon as possible,” said the 24-year-old, who will wear the number 30 shirt at his new club.
Player of the season, Olympic Games and national team debut
The right-footed attacker, who was born in Busan, spent his youth career at Busan IPark. After a spell at Soongsil University, the 1.73-metre tall Lee moved back to his hometown club and made the step up to the first team at the second division side. After 110 games (25 goals, 19 assists), including a Player of the Season 2018/19 award and promotion to the K-League 1, the attacker earned himself a move to Ulsan Hyundai in February 2021. Across all competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup, Lee made 37 appearances and scored 12 goals while providing 5 assists. On the international level, the forward progressed through the South Korea youth teams before being awarded his first full cap in March, and played last time out for Paulo Bento’s team on Thursday against Lebanon in a World Cup qualifier. Last summer, Lee represented his country at the Olympic Games, playing in four matches. Now the next step of his career is here – in Berlin with Hertha BSC. Welcome, Dongjun Lee!
