The last few weeks have not gone to plan for Hertha BSC. Both coaches and players will want to show a different side to themselves in Saturday night’s Bundesliga clash away to Borussia Mönchengladbach and earn some important points for the league table. “We have a lot to make up for,” said Tayfun Korkut in the press conference on Thursday afternoon. The head coach also made clear what was needed for his side to do well: “We need to be more stable and more aggressive. It’s now up to the team themselves to actually do that on the pitch,” he urged. Alongside him, sporting director Fredi Bobic once again emphasised the need for the Blue-Whites to focus on sporting tasks. “We can’t allow ourselves to be concerned with things happening off the pitch – togetherness is what counts in situations like these,” Bobic said. As always, herthabsc.com has collected all the latest from the head coach and sporting director as they spoke ahead of the trip to Mönchengladbach.
Fredi Bobic and Tayfun Korkut on...
... the week’s events:
Tayfun Korkut: Fredi had a discussion with the team, which was very helpful. We’re absolutely behind the team, but we have to demand a performance and we have a lot to make up for. It’s now up to the team themselves to actually do that on the pitch.
Fredi Bobic: We can’t allow ourselves to be concerned with things happening off the pitch. Things like this happening is normal, but we need to focus fully on Saturday. These kinds of things don’t affect the team and aren’t relevant in a sporting sense. Togetherness is what counts in situations like these.
... a possible return for Alexander Schwolow:
Tayfun Korkut: We have three goalkeepers available, so it’s not yet clear who we’ll have between the sticks. They’ve all done well in training this week and we still have tomorrow’s session to go. I’ll come to my decision relatively late on.
... what is needed from the team:
Tayfun Korkut: We need to be more stable and more aggressive, but we can’t forget where the goal is if we want to win games. It will be important for us to take the fight to them and all be aware of the kind of situation we’re in. I’m sure that our lads will fight their corner!
... the opponent:
Tayfun Korkut: Gladbach have their problems too – their squad has lots of quality but the club definitely had different goals at the start of the season. Things aren't going well right now for either side, so we need to make the game ours.
Fredi Bobic: I’m looking forward to saying hello to some old faces. This game is a huge chance to close the gap to Borussia, and in doing so reel in a club that definitely has much higher demands.
