Hertha BSC appoints new managing director

The executive committee of Hertha BSC e.V. has appointed the club’s in-house lawyer, Thomas E. Herrich, as a new managing director. The decision was taken with the approval of the newly-elected supervisory board and chairman Klaus Brüggemann. The 58-year-old has already been involved in the leadership of the club in the past, as a member of the corporate directory.

Herrich has been involved with Hertha BSC for a total of 18 years. Alongside his qualifications as an economist, lawyer and barrister, he has a wealth of experience in the sports market. Moreover, he has been a competitive athlete in the past and has been a closely associated member of Hertha BSC for over 20 years.

Alongside his work at our club, Thomas E. Herrich is also a board member at both the DFB (German FA) and the DFL (German Football League). He is a member of the Marketing and Sponsoring commission of the DFL, and a permanent associate judge for the DFL in the DFB’s Federal Sporting Court, the DFB’s highest sporting court. He has also been president of Marketing Club Berlin e.V. for several years.

“We’re delighted to have appointed a fantastically qualified and highly experienced managing director to Hertha BSC, and in the process found an important piece of the puzzle for the club’s successful future. It is often said that good leaders are found through their steady hand, not a loud voice, and that means we are even happier to welcome Tom Herrich into his new role at Hertha BSC,” said a statement from the executive committee. Herrich’s appointment was a unanimous decision from the board in agreement with the club’s newly-elected supervisory board.

“We have added a real leader with fantastic experience to the side, who we trust to help us set the tone for a successful future for our club, following this difficult period,” added chairman of the executive committee, Klaus Brüggemann

Herrich also appeared happy to be appointed: “It’ a real honour for me, as a long-time Herthaner, to be able to work for my own club in a more senor role. I would like to thank both the executive committee and supervisory board for their trust in me. I want to extend my thanks also to all my colleagues at Hertha BSC, who have supported me up to now and I hope will continue their support into the future. There are several challenges around the club at the moment, so there’s no time to lose. I hope that, together with all Herthaner, we can create a new, better future for our club!”
