Wollschläger moves to Essen on loan

Last week, Luca Wollschläger signed his first professional contract with Hertha BSC. Now, the striker is leaving on loan in order to gain playing experience in the 3. Liga. He will be on loan at Rot-Weiss Essen till the end of the current season. “We gave Luca a professional contract because we believe in his potential. For his development it is important that he now gets match experience at the highest level possible in senior football. This opportunity had been provided in Essen,” explained Fredi Bobic, continuing, “We expect Luca to then return to us this summer. Until then we wish him the best!” The club from the Ruhr faces a challenging season as a promoted side.

The tall centre forward joined Hertha from Hansa Rostock in 2019. With strong performances for both the U17 and U19, the goal-scorer seemed set for higher things. He has already made his Bundesliga debut for Hertha, coming on as a sub against both Bielefeld and Mainz. Wollschläger started for the first time in the relegation play-off against Hamburg. This season, the 19-year-old took part in first team pre-season under head coach Sandro Schwarz.
