Five Hertha players away on international duty

The first international break of 2023 has arrived, with the qualification campaign for EURO 2024 in Germany getting underway. Five Hertha players have been called up to represent their countries.

Lukébakio against Germany

Three Herthaner will be in action in the first round of qualifiers for EURO 2024. Peter Pekarík is due to win his 116th cap for Slovakia, who take on Luxembourg (Thursday, 23.03.23 at 20:45 CET) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (Sunday, 26.03.23 at 20:45 CEST), while Dodi Lukébakio could make his sixth appearance for Belgium. They will face Sweden (Friday, 24.03.23 at 20:45 CET) and Germany (Tuesday, 28.03.23 at 20:45 CET). Stevan Jovetić and Montenegro are first off to Bulgaria (Friday, 24.03.23 at 18:00 CET) and then host Serbia a few days later (Monday, 27.03.23, 20:45 CEST).

Oliver Christensen, Agustín Rogel and Wilfried Kanga are all on standby for their respective nations. Tolga Ciğerci was named in Stefan Kuntz’s provisional Turkey squad, but didn’t make the final selection and will therefore stay in Berlin as well.

Potential debuts for Ngankam and Scherhant

Jessic Ngankam has been called up for Germany U21s for the second time. Having failed to make his debut last year due to injury, he will be hoping to win his first cap this time around. They play friendlies against Japan (Friday, 24.03.23 at 18:15 CEST) and Romania (Tuesday, 28.03.23 at 18:00 CEST). Another academy product, Derry Scherhant, is hoping to appear for Germany for the first time in his career. He has been included in the U20s squad for friendlies against England (Wednesday, 22.03.23 at 19:30 CET) and Italy (Monday, 27.03.23 at 15:00 CEST).
