"Didn’t give our opponents much"

Hertha didn’t have much to beat themselves up about and yet they were unable to come away with a win against FSV Mainz 05 and instead could only pick up a 1-1 draw. “We had a lot of chances on goal and honestly didn’t give our opponents much. Mainz then made their goal from their one opportunity, which is very annoying,” said Marvin Plattenhardt. Marc Kempf agreed with the Blue-Whites’ captain: “Hitting the bar is obviously annoying because we were just a few centimetres away from a win. However, we can always do with points in the relegation battle. We have gotten stronger, put in a lot of effort, and are together as a team,” underlined Hertha’s number 20. herthabsc.com has summarised the immediate reaction.

Marvin Plattenhardt: From my point of view, we gave up two points. We had a lot of chances on goal and honestly didn’t give our opponents much. Mainz then made their goal from their one opportunity, which is very annoying. But we’ll take this point here and hopefully then pick up three points next week.

Oliver Christensen: We had the bigger chances but unfortunately weren’t able to take them. For this reason, we are obviously disappointed. All in all, we did well both in attack as well as in defence. It is very important to pick up points at home – even if it didn’t lead to a win this time, it was a solid performance. We have to win now against Hoffenheim this coming week and we will do everything to do that.

Jessic Ngankam: The result is frustrating. We had everything in control and our tactics were working. Then, we maybe became a bit too passive and Mainz scored with their first chance. We picked up a point but we threw away two. We know the situation with the table, but everything is in our own hands and we are just focussing on ourselves.

Marc Kempf: We were dominant in the first half and perhaps had to be more ahead. After that, we didn’t have as many dangerous situations in the second half. Hitting the bar is obviously annoying because we were just a few centimetres away from a win. However, we can always do with points in the relegation battle. We have gotten stronger, put in a lot of effort, and are together as a team.

Florian Niederlechner: The way in which we played was absolutely brilliant. We scored at least a goal too little. We had some problems at the beginning of the second half but it’s still really frustrating not to have won. Nevertheless, we have to perform exactly the same way in Hoffenheim.
