Martón Dárdai makes debut for Hungary
The first international break in 2024 is underway. Here’s an overview of our boys’ games so far.
Martón Dárdai made his first appearance for the Hungary senior side on Friday afternoon as he came on as a substitute in the 67th minute of the match. The Magyars, who are in Group A alongside Germany at this summer’s EUROs, emerged as 1-0 winners over Turkey. Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai scored the winner from the spot just after the break (48’).
Gechter absent from Germany U21s' draw
Centre-back Linus Gechter was not involved in Germany U21s’ EURO 2025 qualifier against Kosovo, which ended in a 0-0 draw. The side are currently sat in second place in qualifying Group D with 13 points to their name, and have a game in hand over top-of-the-table Poland, which will see them face off against Israel on Tuesday.
Greece to face Georgia in play-off final
Andreas Bouchalakis and Greece are now just a win away from the Euros, as they secured a 5-0 win against Kazakhstan in the play-off semi-finals, with our number five playing the last 15 minutes. “It was a strong performance from the whole team. However, we need to win one more game in order to achieve our goal. We’ll do everything to achieve this,” Bouchalakis said. The 2004 European champions will face off against Georgia on Tuesday for a place at the Euros.
Prevljak and Tabaković unused
It was a tough evening for Bouchalakis’ club teammates in Zenica as Bosnia & Herzegovina fell to a 2-1 defeat against Ukraine. The hosts went in front at the start of the second half, but Ukraine struck back with two late goals in the 85th and 88th minute respectively.
Setback for Germany U19s
The Germany U19 national team, who have three Hertha players in their ranks in the form of Tim Goller, Pascal Klemens and Ibrahim Maza, suffered a setback in their fight for European qualifying as they lost 2-1 to Croatia on Wednesday. Whilst our goalkeeper was on the bench, both outfield players started the game. Maza didn’t only make his debut for the U19s, but also set up Christian Wörns’ equaliser. However, Croatia struck again before the break and held on for victory in a goalless second half.
Bence Dárdai secures win with U18s
The Germany U18 national team were more successful on Wednesday evening. Bence Dárdai was part of the starting eleven as the U18s secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Netherlands in Spain. Captain Noah Darvich scored the only goal of the game (48’), whilst our youngster played 68 minutes.
