“What matters in football is the next pass”

With the ‘Champions League weeks,’ as Pál Dárdai had taken to calling the weeks in which Hertha went up against the league’s top teams, the Blue-Whites will now face off against another side in the bottom half of the table. On Saturday (06/03/21, 15:30 CET), FC Ausgburg travel to the Olympiastadion, before Hertha face another tough run of four games against sides in the top half of the table. It’s no surprise that the game against Augsburg has been given extra attention by the media in Berlin as a key match in the fight to avoid slipping further down the table. “I don’t focus on statistics. What matters in football is always the next pass, the next moment. We have a clear plan in mind for the game,” said Dárdai. “I see the progress the lads are making on a daily basis. They’ve trained well, they are a team and have the desire that’s necessary.”

Sporting director Arne Friedrich picked up where Dardai left off and spoke about his belief in the team’s direction. “We want to win the game, it’s clear that that’s our goal,” he said. “We’re in a relegation battle and all know what the table looks like. We want to pick up points, but one thing is clear: this is just one of many important games that lie ahead of us.” The 41-year-old also praised the fans, saying “I want to thank the fans once again for their support, for hanging up signs and for their encouragement. We need this support from our fans. The club is currently going through something, but the level of solidarity is high!”
