"A massively important win!”

Our players let their emotions run wild, linking arms with joy and celebrating with Pál Dárdai and the rest of the coaching staff. The relief was clear to see after a first win in 63 days. Our players were just as pleased when they spoke to the press after the game. “After the final whistle there was a huge outpouring of emotion from all of us. We almost cried from happiness,” said Lukas Klünter with a smile. The win is just the first step in the right direction, however. “Overall we deserved to win this really, really important game. We have to keep our focus, keep working and get the points week by week,” said Niklas Stark. herthabsc.de sums up the match reaction.

Niklas Stark: This was a massively important win, it feels great. We didn’t start the match so well and we put extra pressure on ourselves by going 1-0 down. At half-time we discussed one or two things that we could do better in the second half. We got stuck into the tackles more, as you have to in a relegation battle. Overall we deserved to win this really, really important game. We have to keep our focus, keep working and get the points week by week even though we have two difficult games coming up. We have shown that we can mix it with the best.

Lukas Klünter: After the final whistle there was a huge outpouring of emotion from all of us. We almost cried from happiness. The last few weeks have been really bad for us; we haven’t played badly but yet we still came away empty-handed. That made it even greater to get the win at the final whistle against Augsburg. We showed desire, we set up as a team and we got our reward. We are all really happy about that. From the very beginning we wanted to take these three points and now we’ve done it.

Dodi Lukébakio: We had to win at all costs! The win just feels absolutely amazing. I’ve worked really hard in training recently and the coach wanted to give us fresh impetus by bringing me on. I gave it my all to do that. With the penalty I was really focused, I knew exactly what I had to do. I just wanted to put the ball in.
