“Two games left!”

Our Herthaner were filled with pure joy as they spoke to the press after the hard-fought 2-1 win over Schalke. After an early set-back, Hertha came out on top with more possession and more chances – and in the end that all-important one goal more. It was a goal brewed at home within the Hertha academy: “It makes me really proud to have helped the team with my goal. I put into practice what I’ve been working on in training in the last few days – shooting from tight angles,” explained matchwinner Jessic Ngankam. herthabsc.com collects the reaction to a huge away win in Gelsenkirchen.

Alexander Schwolow: It feels really, really good to take these three points home. We stayed calm despite the early setback, we kept making chances and so we are going home as worthy winners. We managed to all act as one unit. On the pitch you can feel that everyone is fighting for one another. The lads who are sat on the sidelines are pushing us on from the stands – that is absolutely outstanding and gives us that extra 1% to go on and win games like this. I’m so happy for Jessic. He works hard in training and took his chance – that was his moment! We could have killed the game off earlier but in the final minute it was pinball around my goal. We got through it and had a bit of luck on our side. This victory was extremely important but it’s not over yet. The next important game is against Köln on Saturday and that will be another demanding match.

Jessic Ngankam: I’ve been at the club since I was six – a true Herthaner! To score this winning goal is a great, great feeling and it makes me really proud to have helped the team. Nemanja and Dodi did outstandingly well in the build-up to my goal and I then put into practice what I’ve been working on in training in the last few days. I’ve spoken with our goalkeepers to ask how effective it is to shoot from tight angles. I tried it out and luckily it paid off. When he brought me on the coach told me that I should play with freedom and show what I’ve been working on in training. Overall it was a good team performance so I am really happy that we have picked up three points. They are important points for us but it isn’t over yet. We still have two games left and we want to play with pride. The current workload isn’t easy but we are all doing really well, we’re all right at it. No matter who is on the pitch, everyone performs. We are really confident of securing our place in the Bundesliga.
