Hertha eSports team raring to go in 2021/22

The countdown is on! On 9th and 10th November, the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) Club Championship enters its fourth season, with the Hertha BSC eSports Academy one of 26 participating clubs battling for points on football simulation game FIFA 22. “We can’t wait to finally get going. We’re putting in a lot of preparation at the moment and really hope we can have a successful season,” said eFootball project manager Dennis Krüger.

'HBSC Cihan' and 'Mari' strengthen eSports Academy

The eSports management already put some key personnel foundations in place for that mission in recent weeks, with Cihan Yasarlar and Marina Preradović joining the team. Berlin-born ‘HBSC Cihan’ arrives not only as part of our PlayStation team, but also as a coach. Meanwhile, ‘Mari’ is our first female eSports athlete and will also contribute to the eSports academy as a content creator. “We have been able to bring in two fantastic additions in Cihan and Mari. They both really boost our team,” said Krüger.

New contracts for five athletes

Alongside our two new signings, five athletes from last season are also staying on board; Tom Bismark, Eren Poyraz, Kai Bayer, Leroy Richter and Christoph Strietzel have all extended their contracts with the Blue-Whites. “It was important that we could continue our journey with those lads. Reaching agreements with Tom, Eren, Jai, Leroy and Chrissi is a strong sign of the continuity that we’re aiming for long-term,” added the eFootball project manager. As previously announced, Elias Nehrlich and coach Darem Framke have already left the club.
