Ekkelenkamp at the double

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp had a successful evening on Tuesday. The ‘Oranje’ beat Wales comfortably as they look to qualify for the European U21 Championship 2023 in Romania and Georgia. Our number ten played well in front of a home crowd in Nijmegen, scoring the opener and the fifth goal (7’, 54’). Our attacking midfielder came off after 60 minutes to well-deserved applause from the stands. The Netherlands U21s remain unbeaten in Group E having played three matches and are in second place with seven points. Switzerland lead the group with ten points but they have played one game more. Erwin Van De Looi’s team continue their campaign in four weeks against Bulgaria U21 (12.11.21, 18:45 CET).

Big points for Poland

Krzysztof Piątek and the Polish national team took an important step in the direction of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Coach Paulo Manuel Carvalho Sousa’s side won a close contest in Albania 1-0, with the winning goal coming in the last quarter of an hour (77’). Our striker didn’t feature in the 90 minutes. The win means that Poland have 17 points and overtake Albania (15 points) in Group I. They move into second place behind England (20). The ‘Three Lions’ dropped points against Hungary with a shock 1-1 draw. England and Albania play each other on the penultimate matchday, and defeat for the Albanians would mean that Poland could guarantee a second-place finish in the group with a win in Andorra (12.11.21, 20:45 CET). Both Hertha players will be back in Berlin on Wednesday.
