Final steps and ending on a high

The third international break of the season will throw up differing scenarios for our Herthaner. While some are still searching for valuable points in their qualifying group, others could reach personal milestones, whilst some are just hoping for good results. The latter applies to Peter Pekarík and Slovakia, the first Hertha player in action during this international break. Our number two and his country no longer have a chance of reaching Qatar, though they will still take their remaining qualifiers seriously. “It’s a shame that we won’t be part of the World Cup next year. Nevertheless, we want to end qualification on a high by taking as many points as we can,” summed up ‘Peka’.

Four players in action on Friday

Linus Gechter and Germany U18s will take on Denmark in the first of two friendlies on Friday afternoon. “We’ve faced Denmark at various age groups over the past few years and they have always really tested us,” commented his coach Guido Streichsbier. Márton Dárdai could make his debut for Germany U21s in their EURO qualifier against Poland. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp is also in his nation’s U21s squad, as the ‘Jong Oranje’ will play Bulgaria as they look to continue their good start to the qualification campaign. That’s the aim too for Krzysztof Piątek and Poland. On the penultimate matchday in Group I, they want to keep the pressure on group leaders England by beating Andorra to ensure they still have a chance of direct qualification for the World Cup.
