Happy New Year!

Dear Hertha family,

We have made it through 12 challenging months, 52 weeks, 365 days. Various highs and lows, both on and off the pitch, due to the still ongoing Coronavirus pandemic are behind us.

A year ago, we couldn’t have imagined that 2021 would be yet another year shaped by the pandemic. Now, as this calendar year draws to a close, it’s clear that we have experienced another unusual 12 months. In order to support the collective health and well-being of our society, we have accepted many restrictions to our daily lives. The only way we will make it out of this pandemic is by working together, in order for things to get back to how they were before.

As a club, we at Hertha BSC were also affected by these restrictions. Our virtual AGM in May and the cancelled gathering in November, as well as the limited number of fans permitted inside the Olympiastadion, are just a few examples of this. It has been tough, because we all miss this connection and being part of a collective experience.

However, as a club we can also look back on several positive moments over the last year. For example, I can list the countless campaigns and projects that we have supported, together with our fans. Or the code of ethics that we developed together with the fans which clearly states the values that we stand for as a club. No matter what setbacks we might experience on the pitch as we go through a rebuild, we shouldn’t forget that. After all, Hertha BSC is more than just football.

On behalf of Hertha BSC, I would like to say thank you for your support, not just during the games but also for those aforementioned projects. The social responsibility we have as a club is very important to us. Going into the new year, we are all united in the hope that the pandemic situation will improve and that we will soon be able to get together at the stadium and at the annual general meeting. I’m already looking forward to it!

I would like to wish all Hertha fans all the best for the holidays and lots of luck, success and good health for 2022!

Sincerely,

Werner Gegenbauer
