"We just ran out of gas as a team"

Despite falling behind early on, our Herthaner never gave up as they attempted to take points off the league leaders. However, it wasn’t to be tonight, as Bayern recorded a clear 4-1 win in Berlin. Some positives to draw from the game include Fredrik Bjørkan’s debut appearance for the club. “We wanted to take something from this game and deliver a better performance. Despite everything, it was great to get my first run-out here and to be able to greet the fans,” said the Norwegian. “Unfortunately, we were chasing after them too often and weren’t able to be as calm as we wanted to be or get the possession we wanted. At some point we just ran out of gas as a team, which made it difficult.” Read on for more post-match reaction from the Olympiastadion.

Fredrik Bjørkan: My debut was both a good and slightly less good experience. We wanted to take something from this game and deliver a better performance. Despite everything, it was great to get my first run-out here and to be able to greet the fans. I’m from a small town with a small stadium, and so it’s an incredible experience to play here. On the pitch, we were chasing after them too often and weren’t able to be as calm as we wanted to be or get the possession we wanted. At some point we just ran out of gas as a team, which made it difficult.

Dedryck Boyata: We’re not in a good phase at the moment. We can’t be satisfied with the situation that we’re in – that goes for all of us. Just looking at the result against Bayern is painful. But, we gave it our all and tried to defend the best we could. It wasn’t easy against the strongest team in the league. We need to remain positive, work hard as a team and fight for this club. We need to win and pick up points!

Linus Gechter: We all fought hard, which I think was plain to see for anyone watching the game. No one can take any issue with our commitment, because everyone was playing to their limits. We need to continue working and take it step by step, it won’t be an instant achievement. Bayern aren’t the easiest side to make your debut start again, but I felt well-prepared and had trained in preparation for this.
