“Sharing a point sounds about right”

Matchday 19 in the Bundesliga comes to a close for Hertha; a 0-0 draw the fourth of the season. It was a result which fitted the game, and was fair, all things considered. “Sharing a point sounds about right. We let Wolfsburg have a bit too much in one or two phases at the start, and we weren’t composed enough in attack. We improved towards the end of the second half, but needed to find our way through their defence more effectively,” said Alexander Schwolow. All the reaction to the game is here on herthabsc.com.

Alexander Schwolow: The result fitted the game; sharing a point sounds about right. We let Wolfsburg have a bit too much in one or two phases at the start, and we weren’t composed enough in attack. We wanted to be more active and sit higher but VfL pulled us apart with long diagonal balls. We improved towards the end of the second half, but needed to find our way through their defence more effectively – we have the ability to improve there. I’m a bit baffled as to why Nik Stark’s goal was disallowed, but we can’t change that. Taking a lead would definitely have given us momentum. Next week is going to be fun: we’ve got a cup tie against Union, and then Bayern. We’re fully focussed on the derby.

Niklas Stark: We’ve kept a clean sheet away from home, so we’ll always take that, just as much as the point. We didn’t do too well in the early stages and didn’t show that we wanted the ball. We improved with time – we were able to break the press well. On my disallowed goal: I didn’t see anything, but Jurgen told me that he did nothing wrong. I need to look at it again, but it’s incredibly annoying of course. We need to take the decision on the chin. We need to give our fans a gift on Wednesday and progress to the next round of the cup.

Vladimír Darida: We should look at the positives. We kept a clean sheet and didn’t play badly, but we need to be better up front. If we keep working on those things, the results will come. I’ve got a bit of a headache and my nose hurts, but these things happen and it’s quickly forgotten about. The most important thing, when the derby comes around, is that we want to beat Union and get into the quarter final.

Maximilian Mittelstädt: It was a pretty even game. Both teams had their chances, and we needed to do better with the chances we had on the counter above all. Defensively it was important to keep another clean sheet. We need to take the stability and lessons from our counter attacks forward with us into the next couple of games, and then take our chances. If we play the final pass a bit more precisely, we’ll be dangerous in front of goal. Of course, we wanted to take all three points with us, but at the end of the day, a draw is about the right result – we’ll take the point. We need to concentrate on the tasks we’ve got ahead of us, especially the derby against Union.
