World Cup spots on the line for our Herthaner
Ahead of their return to Berlin, eight players will be in action with their respective national teams once more on Tuesday (29/03). A spot at the World Cup is on the line for Ishak Belfodil and Algeria, as they face Cameroon in the second-leg of their playoff final. Algeria won the first leg 1-0, and will be hoping to book their tickets to Qatar (21st November to 18th December). Linus Gechter and Anton Kade are also in action with the Germany U19s, as they seek to qualify for the U19 EUROs in Slovakia. After picking up two draws in Group E5, the team needs a win against upcoming opponents Finland, while also hoping that Italy and Belgium, who both have four points to their name, only pick up a draw. The winner of each group go through.
Dárdai and Germany U21 face Israel
The Germany U21s will take on Israel in another qualifier ahead of the 2023 U21 EUROs in Romania and Georgia. Antonia di Salvo’s side are just two points ahead of tonight’s opponents, with three matches left. “It’s a very important game for us, with three big points on offer. We need to do what we know we’re capable of doing. If we do, then I’m certain that we will be successful. We are focused and ready,” said Márton Dárdai. Meanwhile in Group E, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and the Netherlands U21s are looking to make up ground against group leaders Switzerland. The Swiss are currently five points ahead of the Dutch, who have a game in hand still.
Dongjjun Lee and South Korea have already booked their tickets to the World Cup, as they get set for a meeting with the United Arab Emirates. Dedryck Boyata and Fredrik Bjørkan will both play friendlies with their respective sides. Boyata will be hoping to pick up his 30th cap against Burkina Faso, while Bjørkan could make his fourth appearance for Norway.
