“That absolutely infuriates me”

The players’ reaction to the defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt was short, precise and to the point. “Everyone knows that we gave 20% too little as a team today. We need to accept that we’re in a relegation battle. We’ve been watching things happen around us for too long now, and now we need to pick ourselves up and fight our hardest for three points,” said Marc Kempf, the number 20 adding his mood to his reaction. “Everyone makes mistakes. We’re only human, but the question is how we deal with them as a team. We’re not doing it at all at the moment. I’ve been here for weeks now and we haven’t won with me here. That absolutely infuriates me.” All the reaction from matchday 25 in the Bundesliga is here on herthabsc.com.

Marc Kempf: It’s hard to find the right words. The situation is really affecting me. Everyone knows that we gave 20% too little as a team today. We need to accept that we’re in a relegation battle. We’ve been watching things happen around us for too long now, and now we need to pick ourselves up and fight our hardest for three points. Everyone makes mistakes. We’re only human, but the question is how we deal with them as a team. We’re not doing it at all at the moment. I’ve been here for weeks now and we haven’t won with me here. That absolutely infuriates me. Tactical work means nothing when you don’t out it on the pitch; even if you have the best tactics in the world, they won’t help you if you don’t actually do them.

Davie Selke: Even in the situation we’re in at the moment, losing 4-1, we need to go and face the fans. We know that we need to fight; we know that. We have to least that manage to do that and we haven’t, so the fans are more than allowed to let off steam. We’re all frustrated and annoyed. You absolutely cannot allow yourselves to concede a goal straight after scoring. I have to use a cliché here – we all need to get our acts together, pick our heads up going into the next game and make sure we at least get a point as quickly as possible. We need to find our way out of it as a team – that means everyone, players and coaches alike.
