“It’s only about Hertha BSC here”

The first step for our team after the final whistle blew was to celebrate and show their joy as a group following their 2-0 win at home to VfB Stuttgart – they had earned it. Then, they managed to find the words to describe their fantastic performance in front of the microphones. “I don’t need to tell you how big this win was,” said a visibly relieved Davie Selke. “It’s only about Hertha BSC here. That goes for the fans as well as us as a group,” said the scorer of the early opener. Marcel Lotka, who has kept two clean sheets in a row now, echoed the words of his teammate: “The will to fight which the coach has called on us to show is pushing us forward on the pitch. We took our chances, everyone fought for one another and we held our own from start to finish – Davie’s goal was the key to it all,” said the goalkeeper. All the reactions post-match are here on herthabsc.com.

Davie Selke: It’s a weight off all our shoulders. The atmosphere was incredible. I don’t need to tell you how big this win was – it was a huge step. I anticipated Platte’s cross and connected well with it. It was a ridiculous ball from Platte, that’s what he does so well. I was also sure that I wasn’t offside because I started my run behind the defender. The win will do a huge amount of good; It’s only about Hertha BSC here. That goes for the fans as well as us as a group. We’re over the moon to get the three points in this important game today; it makes the win in Augsburg all worth it. Felix Magath has a huge amount of experience. I don’t know how often he’s come through situations like this. Training has definitely got tougher, but you can see that it’s doing us all a lot of good. To win two games against direct rivals in such an important phase of the season is really pretty good!

Marcel Lotka: It’s crucial that we’re united and can secure our points that way – which is exactly what we did in this game. The will to fight which the coach has called on us to show is pushing us forward on the pitch. We took our chances, everyone fought for one another and we held our own from start to finish – Davie’s goal was the key to it all. This win was enormously important, it was a six-pointer; you saw how much the win meant with the celebrations after Ishak’s goal. Now, though, we need to keep it up in Bielefeld and collect another three points. We all know what kind of chance we have there. It’s so close in the race for survival; every point counts!

Dedryck Boyata: It feels great to win; these three points are so important in our situation. It was a tough game with a lot of tackles, but scoring early on really helped us. Now, we’re going to the next massive game in Bielefeld – it’s a bit like a final for us. We all want to get out of this situation together and we’ll give our all to do that against Arminia!
