DFB-Pokal campaign to begin in Braunschweig

Despite the season having ended just days ago for our Blue-Whites, our 2022/23 DFB-Pokal first-round opponents have just been confirmed by the draw which took place at the Germany Football Museum in Dortmund – we are to face Eintracht Braunschweig. Hertha BSC recently played the Lower Saxony side in both the 2018/19 and 2020/21 DFB-Pokal first rounds. “First of all, congratulations to Braunschweig for achieving promotion to the second division. It’s a bit of a peculiar draw for us, because it’s becoming a tradition now that we go to Braunschweig for the first round every two years. It’ll be an interesting game against an ambitious and very traditional club,” commented managing director for sport Fredi Bobic on Sunday.

The match against the now second-tier side will take place between 29th July and 1st August. It was already confirmed before the draw began that this was going to be an away fixture. Should we progress past Braunschweig in our first competitive match of the season, we’ll be in the hat for the second round, scheduled to take place on either 18th or 19th October. The final in Berlin’s Olympiastadion will be played on 3rd June 2023.
