Pál Dárdai takes over from Sandro Schwarz

Following several internal discussions, Hertha BSC have decided to part ways with head coach Sandro Schwarz with immediate effect. Volkan Bulut and Daniel Fischer will also no longer be part of the coaching staff. “Sandro and his coaching staff invested a lot of work, energy and passion each day into developing this team. We would like to thank him for that and wish him all the best for the future. Following the very disappointing defeat in Gelsenkirchen, we have taken the time over the last days to analyse and assess our situation and arrived at the conclusion that we needed to make a change in order to pursue our goal of staying up with the few games that remain,” explained sporting director Benjamin Weber. Schwarz said, “I enjoyed being head coach of Hertha BSC and, like everyone else connected to this club, would have liked to have seen our work rewarded with more points. Looking at the table, I can understand why the club have decided to pursue a new path.”

Third stint at Hertha BSC

Pál Dárdai will take charge of the first team with immediate effect until the end of the 2022/23 season. The 47-year-old will therefore return for his third stint at the club, having previously been in charge from February 2015 to summer 2019 and January to November 2021. “I’m pleased that Pál agreed to take charge of Hertha BSC in the midst of this challenging situation. Pál has proven twice before that he is able to bring stability to a team with his clear manner, and that he’s able to guide teams out of similar situations. We’re convinced he will do so now again,” said Weber. Dárdai said, “Everyone knows of my connection to Hertha BSC, which is why I didn’t need long to make a decision when the call came. There are six games left, with potentially two more on top, and I will give everything along with the team to make sure that the club stay in the Bundesliga. It won’t be easy, but I’m looking forward to it.”
