Wilhelm Wernicke Prize
The Hertha BSC Foundation awards the Wilhelm Wernicke Prize annually to youth welfare projects in the fields of sport, culture, and integration. The prize recognizes initiatives from Berlin and Brandenburg that promote fairness, tolerance, and solidarity in the field of sport. The prize was established in 2020 on the initiative of Bernd Schiphorst and strengthens the social profile of Hertha BSC. It stands for diversity, social commitment, and fair cooperation.
Wilhelm Wernicke (1882–1967) was president of Hertha BSC for decades and shaped the club like no other. As a social democrat and trade unionist, he protected Hertha from Gleichschaltung during the Nazi era by cleverly adapting to the circumstances and remained active in the background as a “gray eminence.” Together with his wife Martha, he kept the club community together even during the war years. After 1945, he ensured Hertha's reconstruction and remained deeply attached to the club until his death.

Any individual or organization can nominate themselves or others for the Wilhelm Wernicke Prize. The jury will decide on the award. The terms and conditions of the Wilhelm Wernicke Prize apply. Simply fill out the nomination form.
The application period runs from September 1 to October 31, 2025. You can submit your application via the online form now. In the form, we ask, among other things, how you plan to use the funding.
