Hertha Berlin founded the first Bundesliga eSports academy in 2018. Over 2,100 FIFA players competed for the chance to become eSports professionals with Hertha Berlin at several scouting events held in Berlin, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Hertha Berlin eSports academy is based on a holistic concept: in addition to game training, the programme also includes nutritional coaching, mental training, fitness sessions and instruction in media and social-media skills.
The captain and longest-serving member of the Hertha eSports team will take on a more extensive role as an ambassador and content creator for the academy. As a successful YouTuber, Nerlich will no longer compete in the Virtual Bundesliga for Hertha, but will instead focus only on international competitions.
After being scouted by the academy, he will now take on a more prominent role. Bismark will represent the ‘Old Lady’ in the VBL Club Championship, where he will fight to pick up important points for the team.
The Hertha eSports youngster is now finally able to take part in all tournaments, after having turned 16. He won’t just represent Hertha Berlin in the VBL Open, but will also take his first steps on the international stage.
The long-time Hertha fan has been able to combine his love for the club with his love for eSports. Richter finished in second at the scouting events, behind current teammate Kai Bayer. He will now compete for Hertha Berlin in the VBL Club Championship.
Like Tom Bismark, Eren will also be taking his next steps this season. He will be competing in the VBL Club Championship, where he and Tom will be representing the ‘Old Lady.’
The second new signing to the academy is also the second Berlin native in the team. Christoph is a die-hard Hertha fan, and has previously competed for Hamburger SV’s eSports team. He will also be competing in the VBL Club Championship.
The Hertha eSports team are coached by Berlin native, Daren Framke. The professional FIFA coach has previously competed for Eintracht Frankfurt’s eSports team and has been successful as a FIFA player.
