Thrilling games in Japan

All four of our Herthaner taking part in the Toyko Olympics can continue to dream of reaching the quarterfinals. Germany's Arne Maier, Jordan Torunarigha and Eduard Löwen (currently on loan at Bochum) celebrated a 3-2 win against Saudi Arabia on Sunday in Yokohama. Maier and Löwen both started as Germany let two leads slip after Leverkusen's Nadiem Amiri (11') and Frankfurt's Ragnar Ache (43') had put the side ahead. Bielefeld's Amos Pieper was then sent off for a late challenge (67') leaving Germany shorthanded for the final 20 minutes. In the 75th minute, Augsburg's Felix Uduokhai headed home the winning goal for his side. Löwen played the full 90 minutes of the 3-2 win, with Maier being subbed off in the 71st minute and Torunarigha coming off the bench in the 69th. Germany's next game will be a must-win match against Ivory Coast on Wednesday (28th July, 10:00 CEST), with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. 

France also still have a chance to reach the next round. Lucas Tousart and Co. beat South Africa 4-3 in a back-and-forth affair. France came back to equalise three times and scored the winner in the second minute of dded time. Tousart featured for 68 minutes. On Wedensday, (13.30 CEST), they will face Japan with the aim of reaching the next round. Matheus Cunha and Brazil will also be looking to advance, after a win against Germany and a goalless draw against Ivory Coast. Cunha featured for 74 minutes, but missed a golden opportunity to score in the second half. He will now face Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
