"The goal was something we've studied!"

When things the team worked on in training come off in a game, the coach is often even happier than the players. That was just the case with our winner against Borussia Mönchengladbach, even if Marco Richter didn’t catch the ball perfectly. “I didn’t get the best contact on the ball, but it was great to see it drop into the net – it looked really cool!” Our number 23 smiled as he looked back at his goal, but also focused on continuing this form. “These wins against big clubs like Gladbach and Frankfurt do us good. We want to follow them up and keep delivering these hardworking performances in the next few games!” We have collected all the reactions from the win at the Olympiastadion here at herthabsc.com.

Alexander Schwolow: I’m so happy to finally keep a clean sheet. We were very compact, kept the lines tight and made it so difficult for Gladbach. The lads also covered so much ground, which you could see in the tackles they made. We need to keep that momentum with us. If we take the lead at home, it’s difficult for any opponent. In a couple of situations we needed to keep the ball a bit better and play a bit calmer. That said, we did the basics well, which we worked hard on after the first few games. The closeness between the lines meant that when one man made a mistake, another deals with the problem in his place. Those are the details which the team needed. Everyone in our team knows what everyone else is doing, and that makes it difficult for every opponent.

Márton Dárdai: We worked well together and fought hard once again as a team. Everyone ran and gave their all – the running performances showed that once again. We know that it’s difficult for every opponent when we work together as a team and keep the gaps narrow. We want to work on these performances for the upcoming games and win points together as a team. I only found out the day before the game that Niklas Stark was injured and wouldn’t be able to play. I was well-prepared for the game, but we made a plan to play both myself and Linus Gechter for a half each, and I played around 80 minutes. When I came off, I was running on empty – I need to work hard so I can play for the full 90 minutes as soon as I can!

Marco Richter: We have studied a few throw-in variations, and the goal was one of them. I didn’t get the best contact on the ball, but it was great to see it drop into the net – it looked really cool! These wins against big clubs like Gladbach and Frankfurt do us good. We want to follow them up and keep delivering these hardworking performances in the next few games. We need to stick at it and currently we feel good. Now, we want to get through the game in the DFB-Pokal and then produce another performance like this one against Hoffenheim on Friday evening.
