"We didn't deserve to lose this game"

Despite scoring the equaliser and hitting the crossbar, Hertha left the pitch defeated against SC Freiburg on Saturday afternoon. That’s the short and unhappy story of our afternoon, in which the visitors took all three points back to the south-west. “We didn’t do enough in general. We played against a team with confidence, who are on a good run of form. Even still, we need to have the courage to get the fans on our side and win the points. We definitely deserved at least one point,” said a disappointed Prince Boateng. All the reactions from the afternoon’s game are here on herthabsc.com.

Prince Boateng: We didn’t do enough in general. We have a short break now which we need to use to regroup. Everyone has to get behind what we need to do 100%. We played against a team with confidence, who are on a good run of form. Even still, we need to have the courage to get the fans on our side and win the points. If we don’t do that, then it can be hard, but today we actually earned at least a point and didn’t deserve to lose the game. I’m keeping positive – we need to find our team spirit in order to overcome the problems which we saw now and again in the game.

Maxi Mittelstädt: It’s very frustrating, of course. I felt that we were a bit too defensive in the first half, and because of that we didn’t put much pressure on Freiburg and didn’t switch the ball quickly enough after winning it back. We lacked a focal point up front too. After getting the equaliser we noticed that we were on top, and we could’ve taken the lead with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp’s shot which hit the bar. It’s so annoying that we lost the game on two corners. It wasn’t our finest hour, but with a bit of luck we would have got something from the game.

Suat Serdar: We conceded two goals from corners at home, so we didn’t deserve to win the game either. We were also really close to making it 2-1 when we hit the bar. We got a bit of confidence from the equaliser and the fans pushed us on. We need a bit of luck at the moment – we need to work on that and then we’ll get back to winning ways. We’re trying to block out the boos and instead show our fans that we’re fighting for them. Myself and the team are all going to work hard in the international break so we go into the next game in the right mindset and hopefully earn some points.

Dedryck Boyata: It’s not the first time that we’ve let goals in from set pieces too easily. We have a short break now and some of us will travel to our our national teams. The thing we can do and we have to do is work harder and get back to a high level. Many of us aren’t working at that level, myself included. We’ve got through a situation like this once before since I’ve been here. Now, we need to work together to make sure that we get out of it again.
