Piątek into the playoffs, victory for Ekkelenkamp

Following the final matchday in Group I, Krzysztof Piątek and Poland have secured a spot in the play-offs. Poland lost 2-1 to Hungary, but even a win wouldn’t have seen them top the group, as England simultaneously beat San Marino. Piątek was subbed off in the 65th minute. Poland will now go up against 12 other teams as they fight to secure one of three remaining spots at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The play-off draw will take place on 26th November in Zurich. The games will then take place on 24th and 29th March 2022, as the ten second-placed sides from qualifying and the two best-placed group winners from the UEFA Nations League face off. Dedryck Boyata and Belgium have already booked their tickets to next year’s tournament. They drew 1-1 with Wales on Tuesday night, with our captain playing the full game.

Big win for Ekkelenkamp – Gechter and Germany U18s lose to Denmark

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and the Netherlands U21s celebrated a 7-0 win against Gibraltar U21s as they moved top of Group E in qualifying for the U21 EUROs. Our number 10 featured for the full 90 minutes, scored to make it 6-0 and set up our on loan striker Daishawn Redan to round of the result. “We did what we set out to do. Gibraltar had a lot of players behind the ball, but we found the right solutions to break past them. I’m pleased about my goal and assist. My full focus is now on the derby,” Ekkelenkamp said after the game.

Linus Gechter and the Germany U18s took on Denmark last Friday. After a rollercoaster contest, the teams drew 3-3 and our young defender, who captained the side, scored Germany’s first. His team trailed 2-0 early on but Gechter’s goal got his side back in the game. On Monday, they faced the Danes again, losing 2-1 this time around. Gechter was subbed on in the 60th minute.
