“It was not enough”

In the build-up to the opening game of the Bundesliga season Hertha were confident and had prepared well for the much anticipated clash against Union. This meant the disappointment was even greater in the Hertha camp after a 3-1 defeat in Köpenick. Everyone at Hertha envisaged a much different start to the season. “It was not enough. We worked our way into the game well, had chances, but we didn’t find a goal. After that, we gave up the goal they scored too easily. The fans are obviously disappointed. It also hurts a lot as players to have lost the derby once again,” said captain Marvin Plattenhardt. herthabsc.com has the immediate reaction to the derby.

Marvin Plattenhardt: It was not enough. We worked our way into the game well, had chances, but we didn’t find a goal. After that, we gave up the goal they scored too easily. We have to look back at the clips and cut out our errors. The fans are obviously disappointed. It also hurts a lot as players to have lost the derby once again. We have to continue to work hard and then we will start picking up points. We made progress during pre-season and developed as a team. So it has to be a matter of putting this behind us and keeping going.

Oliver Christensen: Today we were lacking quality and intensity, we didn’t do what was demanded of us – it was not good enough. We knew how much this game meant to the fans, so we are annoyed, sad and disappointed. We wanted to win for Hertha and for them. But as a team we have to be better than that if we want to win three points, it was unfortunately a deserved win for Union. Now we have the first home game ahead of us and it is important for the fans and for all of us that we play better. To do that, we have to keep our heads up, even in difficult moments.

Dodi Lukébakio: It was a difficult game where we did not have a lot of space and didn’t find enough answers. We only managed to do this at the end of the game and managed to score. We still need a little time. We have a lot of new players and there is no quick fix. Last year was difficult, but the team is mentally strong and it was our first game of the season, even if a defeat in the derby is obviously painful. But now we have to stay positive and try to create more dangerous chances in the next game, as well as being better defensively as a team. I have a lot of hope that we will work it out step by step.
